CAPE TOWN – Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler believes even though he’s facing Kaizer Chiefs this weekend in the MTN8 clash, his main focus is an away game they have next week.
The Citizens’ next DStv Premiership match will be facing SuperSport United next week on Friday at TUT Stadium in Pretoria.
Tinkler’s charges will be welcoming Kaizer Chiefs this weekend on Sunday at Athlone Stadium.
He admits the importance of Sunday’s match but says his mind and planning are already in their away match next week.
“I am one hundred percent sure that the guys will be up for it come Sunday for the game against Chiefs,” said Tinkler.
“But that game is not really my concern, but the SuperSport United one away on Friday night is.
“Can we ensure that we put on a good performance against Chiefs and refocus again in the league because the league is just as important if not more important.”
The Cape based outfit will approach Chiefs on a high after beating Moroka Swallows 1-0 on Wednesday.
Making two from two in the league so far, Tinkler has praised discipline for his side’s good run so far.
“Coming here is not always easy, last season we dominated the game but ended up taking the loss. I’ve said it out from the beginning there are no easy games in this league,” he said.
“This league all the games are extremely hard, our record last season, away from home, wasn’t very good. Obviously, that was a massive concern for me coming to this game.
“But I thought today defensively we were a structured organised discipline, and in reality, in the first half I thought we really dominated, we created the better chances.”
The kick off for Sunday’s MTN8 match is at 15:00.
